What I've been up to: 8/12/16 - 8/21/16

PAST PRESENT FUTURE!
*this is going to be a really boring post with a lot of information that probably won't interest you in the slightest. Being a newer blogger, I am sure sometime's I am going to have these really boring posts that include information that is basically useless to you - sorry.*

PAST

This weekend was nice. We went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse Friday night with a gift card that we received as a wedding gift from some friends of ours. I tried something different off their menu, the Grilled Shrimp entrĂ©e, and it was delicious.

Saturday I spent majority of the day just taking it easy in preparation for Girls Night on the Patio. My friend Kristyn was having some girls over just to hang out and have some girl fun. I have to say that I had a very good time with all of the girls, but I was glad my best friend Candace was also invited, we rode together. I didn’t really know the other girls there, but I am always open to meeting new people and making new friends. It was also a big first for me… I was the oldest person there. That is such a big change, as I am usually one of the youngest people everywhere I go.

Sunday was mostly spent recovering from the night before. Jonathan did go out and buy new brakes and rotors for my car. The brakes were almost completely gone, so it was perfect timing to get that done. And yes, I sat out in the garage and helped.

He likes it when I spend time in the garage with him. Like last Thursday, I helped him work on his electric shifter he was putting in the drag truck, and I even loaded the truck up in the trailer. The truck has so much power though, I am very intimidated driving it. It sounds like it’s just going to take off and go flying. Which is why I am much better suited to sit on the sidelines and watch him race.

PRESENT

So last week’s schedule WAS looking really busy, but two of the appointments that we had were rescheduled to this week. Monday evening after work, began with us meeting with our financial advisor at 6pmToday, there was a compliance audit at work that I we had to get prepared for which is always very stressful. Then we had our first ever Bible Study today at 6pm. I was supposed to bake another chocolate pie LAST NIGHT to bring since we had rescheduled from last week, but decided to take the easy route and go buy one. Of course I told the truth that I did not make the pie; after tasting it I am tempted to say that mine was better Anyways, its always nerve racking going to hang out with new people, but I have been doing more of it lately and its starting to not be as scary.

We met with our Officiant from our wedding, his wife and two children. And there was one other couple that had recently moved here from Ohio. Well I think Jonathan and I both enjoyed meeting with them and the encouragement we got from doing so. We did feel like the newbies, but that's because we kind of are. They were so welcoming and kind; our discussion really made you think, and that also felt good. We will definitely meet with them again.

Now home, writing this while Pretty Little Liars is being recorded in the livingroom. Of course home to watch PLL afterwards! I absolutely LOVE Pretty Little Liars, and have no shame for how obsessed I am with that show. Aria and Ezra FINALLY getting engaged made all of my dreams come true!!

FUTURE

Friday morning is Oscar’s follow up vet appointment at 9 am, so I will just go into work a little late. He seems to be doing so much better now, but definitely want the followup just to be sure.

Saturday we will be having a combined dinner with me and my Granny. And Sunday will be my birthday!!

I am sure my next blog post will be more exciting than this. This was probably pretty boring to read. Whoops!

Birthday Wishlist 2016

Since I will be turning 26 on the 21st of this month, I figured I would post a wishlist of a few things I would love to have for my birthday. Some of the items, I would never expect to get as a birthday gift due to the price, but a girl can dream right? Anyways these are some of the top items on my birthday wishlist for my approaching birthday.

1.Jeans – I need new jeans! I have maybe 3 pairs of jeans that still fit me, and only 1 pair that fits me good. The other 2 squeeze me in all the wrong places and don’t want to stay up on my butt! I guess you really do grow into your “woman” body in your mid 20s because I had been in the same size jeans for ages and in the past, I would say 2 years, my legs, hips and of course the gut have gotten a bit larger. So I am overdue to hand down my too small jeans to someone that can wear them and go out to buy my some new jeans that fit!
2.Dallas Cowboys Jersey – Jason Witten to be exact! Since we are going to our first NFL game in September, I would really like to have a jersey to show my Cowboy pride at the game.
3.iPad – Now I know this is a really expensive item to put on my wishlist, and by no means do I expect to get one for my birthday, but I have really been wanting an iPad lately. I think I would get a lot of use out of it if I had one. Maybe one day the price will be a bit more reasonable, and I can purchase one for myself.
4.Ralph by Ralph Lauren perfume – This has been my “signature” scent for nearly the last 10 years. I have always worn Ralph by Ralph Lauren. Anyways, the bottle I have is starting to run low and it’s never too early to get another bottle for when I run out.
5.Cowgirl Boots – Now this is something that I really, really want to get soon before Fall is here, but I am just going to have to go into a store and try them on to find the right size/style for me. Unfortunately, I have ordered 2 different pairs of boots online in the past and have not been pleased with what I received. The first pair was way too big, and the second pair was a little too small, and didn’t look as cute in person as they did online. Now if I could sell the two pairs I have, I may have enough money to go purchase a pair that fits!
6.Michael Kors watch – This again, is really expensive gift that I in no way expect to get for my birthday, but would love to have one someday. I think this one is so pretty, which is strange because I am usually more of a silver/white gold girl.

I am sure there are many other things I could think of if I put my mind to it, but these are the few things that first come to mind when I think about items for my Birthday Wishlist.

Weekend Recap 8/4-8/7

Last Thursday we took our sweet old dog Oscar to the vet. He’s been having some problems for the last couple weeks, and we figured since he hadn’t gotten any better it was time for him to visit the doc. He was such a good boy the entire visit and even after being poked, squeezed and violated, he was just a happy boy as always. The vet visit cost a bit more than we expected because we got a bit of medication, and a few tests. We did have them check again for the heart worms since he tested positive about 2 years ago. We had tried the slow kill method, and even though we weren’t perfect with giving him his medicine, we did get the good news that he is heartworm FREE! This was some much needed positivity since the rest of the visit left us uncertain and worried. We were sent home with an antibiotic and an appointment to follow up in two weeks.

After we got off work that evening, we decided we were going to take both of the dogs with us out for a boat ride. Kayla, our younger female, has been out on the boat before so she was very comfortable and excited, jumping right on the boat. But for Oscar, this was his first ever boat ride. Jonathan had to pick him up and put him on the boat because he was just a little nervous about the whole thing. Once on the boat and we started moving they both relaxed and enjoyed the ride. It was so nice to have both of them with us. Especially since Oscar is getting so old, we wanted to have him with us. And since he was such a good boy during his vet visit, he deserved to get out for a little while.

Saturday was a Points Race at Richmond dragway. So of course we spent the day at the drag strip, in the miserable heat, only for the race to be cancelled close to 8 pm due to the rain. Luckily, they split the pot with all of the racers that were still in it. Jonathan’s truck is in need of some new tires, so he was lucky that one of his racing buddies was on vacation and let him borrow his truck for the day. Jonathan really has a great group of friends at the drag strip and they all look out for each other. Over the past 6 years, I have learned A LOT about drag racing. I have met several of his friends, and finally feel like people know me and recognize me. I wish there were more females there that were close to my age to hang out with during the race. I met this one girl a few weeks back that seemed really nice. I was bummed on Saturday when her husband said she wasn’t there. Hopefully she comes to the next one, because I need a friend so I don’t sit alone in the stands all the time!

Sunday morning, we had to take back the truck we borrowed. Then we met up with Jonathan’s mom at Cold Harbor Restaurant for breakfast. Jonathan’s sister, Ashley, works there on the weekends so we were able to chit chat with her a little bit. Once finished, we headed to the mall so I could return a bra that I purchased from Victoria’s Secret that was defective. Another let down, they weren’t able to order me a replacement because it was no longer for sale on the website.

We went home, and I decided to take a nap. Obviously I love my naps, usually taking one every weekend. Once I woke up, I did some laundry and cooked us flat bread pizzas for dinner. Jonathan was working on the boat, which he has put for sale on craigslist. I had just gotten used to the boat and kind of don’t want to sell it. But it isn’t the boat that we want, so if we can sell it, we can hopefully buy the type of boat that we do want. Around 7 my mom called and asked me to go with her to the dog park. She recently rescued a Miniature Pincher from the SPCA and wanted to see how he would do around other dogs. Well, it didn’t go very good. There was a nice guy that had an adorable female poodle that he said he would allow to meet with him to see how he did. Unfortunately, he was a bully to the sweet little girl and kept jumping up on top of her and just made me and mom nervous that he would hurt her. He was put back on his leash and we got ready to take him back home. Mom was disappointed that he did so poorly, but I explained to her that he may never have been socialized with other dogs in his previous home. She and Ed are going to try again together sometime to see if there is any improvement.

Once she dropped me off at home, I finished up a bit more laundry and watched a little bit of the Olympics before getting ready for bed. Now the work week is here again, and we have a fairly busy week ahead. Wednesday evening, we will be going to our first ever Bible study. The Officiant who married us has invited us and one other couple into his home to meet with his family and have Bible study. I am really excited because I have wanted us to get more involved in our faith for some time now. I am hoping it is a good fit for us, because I have heard it can be difficult to find a group that you mesh well with. But I am positive that it will be a great evening of fellowship and discussing scripture. Thursday after work, we have another meeting with our financial advisor to discuss a few different things. I am so glad we were referred to the advisor we have. He’s younger, intelligent and seems like he understands our immediate needs, as well as what we want to work towards in the future. Lastly, one night this week we will be meeting up with our old roommate, Jason, that we lived with when we first started dating. He knows we are both Dallas Cowboys fans, and he being a Redskin fan always provides for friendly rivalry. Well, he invited us to go with him to the game at the Redskins stadium on September 18th and we need to reimburse him for purchasing our tickets. I am SO EXCITED because it will be a first for Jonathan and I. Our first NFL game seeing our boys playing their biggest rival!! Can’t wait!

Our Honeymoon

We spent our honeymoon in the US Virgin Islands. Financially, we couldn’t afford a weeklong trip, so we flew there the Monday after our wedding and came home that Friday. (Just in time to spend the 4th of July with friends on Lake Anna). Neither one of us had been to the islands before, so we were both very excited and nervous about being in an unfamiliar place. Fortunately for Jonathan, he has a wife who does A LOT of research before doing most things. I knew the popular places that I wanted us to go to and a few restaurants that I wanted us to try. So leading up to leaving I had, for the most part, a game plan.
We flew out of Richmond before the sun even rose. And were very lucky that my mom was taking us to the airport. We were supposed to be at her house 30 minutes before needing to be at the airport. When she realized we were running late getting to her house, she called us. Thank goodness she did, because we were both still asleep!! If it wasn’t for her, we would’ve miss our flight and I would have been devastated. So once waking us up, she got us to the airport in the nick of time to get through security and board the plane.

We had a short flight from Richmond to Charlotte, NC where we had a fairly long layover. After a few hours in Charlotte which included a very hectic lock down of the airport and terminals do to a breach of some sort, we finally boarded our plane for St. Thomas. This flight was a bit longer and fortunately, we were both able to doze in and out of sleep a little.

After landing, you exit the plane onto the tarmac and walk practically all the way around the small airport to an entrance where you are immediately served shots of flavored rum made on the USVI of St. Croix. Talk about starting our Honeymoon right!! Haha!
Now Jonathan is not a drinker, like at all. Maybe a single beer once in a blue moon. (One of the reasons I feel so lucky to call him mine). But he is a tobacco smoker, a habit I gave up over a year ago and wish he would decide to do the same. So once in the airport, there is a tobacco store where he bought a carton for about $20.00! This is crazy because here in Virginia, the tobacco state (Phillip Morris), you will pay about $50.00 for a carton. Something else that we found was pretty cool was that the cigarettes he bought in St. Thomas were made and packaged right here in Richmond, VA. Pretty neat!
Once we exited the airport building, the humidity smacks you in the face! And the sun’s rays seem about 50x stronger! I guess that comes with being much closer to the equator. There are many people right by the door asking if you need a ride and fortunately we did not, because the car rental place would come pick us up. I called them to let them know we had landed; they ask what you’re wearing and tell you to stand on the curb. Our ride picked us up and took us not far to the car rental agency, Discount Car Rentals. They were friendly and got the paperwork done and in our brand new Jeep Wrangler in no time. We both LOVED the Jeep!

Thankfully they also drew us a map to get to the resort we were staying at, which was on the other side of the island. Our phones were having a hard time getting service for the first couple of hours we were there. (We found out we needed to change the roaming data in settings, which fixed the problem). Jonathan was responsible for driving, because you still drove in the same seat of the vehicle, but on the opposite side of the road, which made me nervous. When we got to Point Pleasant Resort, we got our parking pass and made it to our condo. OMG the view from our balcony was too die for!! Absolutely stunning!

The condo was very nicely decorated and set up in a way that you could still see the view from the King size bed. The owner had champagne and a sweet note waiting for us upon arrival. I would’ve preferred a bottle of Rum and some diet coke, but no biggie.

Since it was later in the day we figured we would stay on the resort for dinner. We made our way down (very steep steps) to the Shoreline Bar and Grille where we were right on the water, the music was perfect and the drinks were even better. I ordered a drink called Sunburn, and followed it up with another. Boy was I feeling good! We ate dinner and watched the sunset. Then for the treacherous walk back up to our hilltop condo! About halfway up we were both huffing and puffing and didn’t think we would make it. We are glad that we are both younger and in fairly decent shape. I would not recommend a person of age try to make this hike.

That night we slept like babies after travelling all day. We woke up the next morning and headed to the grocery store to buy a few things for breakfast/lunch/snacks. Everything was very expensive, especially anything that was good for you. Where bad things, such as liquor and cigarettes were cheap. For example, one gallon of milk $7.00! Crazy! And one bottle of Rum was only… also $7.00.

After shopping, we decided to get our bathing suits on and head down to our resorts Sugar Beach. It was a very small, but clean beach with a couple daybeds. We were lucky enough to snag one of them.

We did some snorkeling and relaxed for a while. Then decided it was time to eat and decided to just go to the Shoreline again since it was convenient. There was a younger married couple who worked there, and I will be honest were probably the friendliest people we interacted with the whole time we were there. (Most of the locals did not seem to like tourists very much.) We made it there in time to miss the rain and to visit with a cute little duck and a rather large iguana.

We hopped in the Jeep and did some exploring around the island. There were wild chickens everywhere! We were going to do some shopping but were confused because all the stores were closed up and it was only 5pm. We did stop and speak with a very friendly woman who lived on the island and she gave us a lot of information and tips. She said that it was off season and when the cruise ships aren’t there, the stores close early. She also informed us of a bit of unpleasant news about why the locals weren’t friendly (I won’t go into detail because talking about “hate” just makes it spread. And I am not about spreading something such as that.) But she gave us a few examples that cleared up the murkiness for us. She also told us to stay on main roads because it not safe elsewhere. Of course anywhere you go will have good areas and bad areas, but she pointed out the slums to us which was directly across the street, and said “you don’t wanna be caught in the slums.” There were other horror stories she told us which made Jonathan and I both uneasy… dinner that night was again, at the Shoreline Grill on the resort. Painkillers (the drink) and Salmon  for dinner.

Wednesday we woke up early with plans on riding the barge over to St. John for the day. When we got in the long line to board the barge a man was going car to car and informed us they were doing inspections and it would be at least 4 hours before we would be able to board. I was disappointed, but Jonathan was able to brighten my day by taking me shopping!! I bought a couple t-shirts and a few souvenirs/gifts for others. Unfortunately, from the time we left Virginia until even after we came home, I had a stiff neck that I could not turn my head. It also was a dull constant pain the entire time, except when I had some alcohol running through my blood. It was really starting to get to me that day and Jonathan was trying his best to make sure I was okay and enjoying myself. Next, we decided to try to make it to Mountain Top. Which was one of the places I had found in my research. Most people take a taxi because it is such a treacherous drive. Jonathan was nervous about it but he followed my directions through several twists and turns going up to the top of the mountain. I know it was very stressful for him but I was so grateful that he was doing it for me. I kept telling him that the view will be worth it. And it so was! The store is huge and they serve the world famous Banana Daiquiri! I ordered the largest one they had and it was absolutely delicious and my neck pain melted away. We went out on the overlook, and it was breathtaking. There was a bit of smog but it was so nice to see all of the distant islands past Magens Bay.

We bought more souvenirs, and I was enjoying the music just walking around looking at everything. I could’ve stayed in there all day drinking the daiquiris and listening to the music, but Jonathan knows me well enough to know I had a REALLY good buzz going and it was only noon. We got out of there and headed to get lunch at Duffy’s Love Shack, which was a good recommendation from a friend of his. We had lunch and I had another Painkiller. Back to our condo we went, where I cracked open my bottle of rum… not the best idea because I was already highly intoxicated. But we enjoyed each other’s company for the rest of the evening.

The next morning, we woke up to watch the sunrise. It was absolutely beautiful… but my drunkenness from the night before was getting the best of me. I embarrassingly enough spent the entire morning back and forth from the bed to hugging the toilet and back to the bed. This went on until about 12. I felt so bad because it was our last full day in St. Thomas and it was my fault that it was being wasted away in our room. I finally pulled myself together, got some food and water in me and got going. Since we hadn’t gotten to go to St. John the day before, we headed to the barge to make it there. St. John was very beautiful, but the roads were very winding and you had to be careful because of the wild goats that would just hang out in the road. We went to another restaurant I wanted to try. Skinny Legs Bar and Grill. I’ll be honest, it was cool because they had a lot of items for sale. But it was hot, the water was self-serve, and the food was nothing to write home about. I think me being hung over made the heat even more unbearable. And the water had a weird flavor to it.

After eating, we finally headed to the top destination on my wish list. Honeymoon beach! I so wanted to go there since we were on our honeymoon. The sand was pearly white, and the water was so clear. We had a sting ray swim up right beside us, which scared me half to death. I just about climbed up Jonathan to get away from it. Since we had such a late start, we didn’t have a lot of time to spend there because the last barge left St. John to go back to St. Thomas at 6. We had a long wait to get on but were able to enjoy the sunset on the ride back. Our last night in St. Thomas was a little bitter sweet. We both were ready to go home, but sad to leave paradise to go back to reality at the same time. The next morning we woke, packed, dumped out the rest of the bottle of rum that made me so ill and loaded up the Jeep. Once we dropped it off, they gave us a ride back to the airport, which was hot and crowded. We spent a few hours there waiting for our plane which was delayed getting to us.

We finally made it back to Richmond around midnight and my mom and her boyfriend were there to pick us up. They were so sweet and took care of our 2 dogs and 2 cats while we were gone… they even cleaned our house for us. I loved being just him and I on our Honeymoon, but we were so glad to be home with our fur babies, sleeping in our own bed. But looking back at pictures now I cannot wait to go back!! Or at least somewhere else tropical! Maybe Hawaii, or the Florida Keys!! One day we will definitely do some more travelling. I just have to convince Jonathan to get back on a plane since he’s not the biggest fan of flying.
One day we will. I’m sure of it!
